Karen McIntyre

Karen McIntyre is Vice President, Global Site Alliances, Launch Excellence for Parexel. Her role is to provide strategic, site solution approaches to address the most critical challenges in the clinical trial pathway, predicable and successful patient recruitment. The driver of Global Site Alliances is to build and maintain purposeful relationships with sites to construct an in-depth knowledge of our sites experience, facilities and resource ensuring the right studies are mapped to the right sites. Karen joined Parexel in August 2022 to lead innovative solutions, partnering with high performing sites with the purpose of making the clinical trial journey more efficient for sites and patients.

Karen is an enthusiastic and determined leader bringing energy and a sense of realism supported by three decades of relevant experience with proven ability to build and lead strong teams, implementing innovative solutions to reduce site burden and demonstrate superior performance of sites. Karen joined the industry in 1992 as study site coordinator with extensive experience and expertise successfully managing the recruitment and maintenance of clinical trials including cardiovascular and metabolic disorder, women’s health, neurology, and infectious diseases in phase II through phase IV clinical trials. Karen has benefited from several leadership roles within clinical operations, compliance management, and strategic relationships.

With a background in nursing Karen is acutely aware of the importance of engaging with sites to understand their insights on patient and family burden and to include strategies with the aim to make studies less burdensome for patients and site staff. Karen received her Master’s in Clinical Trials from the University of Edinburgh in 2016 and is currently studying Executive Leadership at Oxford University. Karen is also an active member and Co-Chair of Scotland’s National Research Ethics Committee.
