Joseph Kim, Ph.D., R.Ph.
VP, Clinical Pharmacology Modeling & Simulation
Joseph works closely as an expert partner with his pharmaceutical colleagues in the strategic clinical pharmacology planning, protocol development, clinical conduct, data analysis, PK/PD modeling and simulation and reporting of clinical studies.
Work experience
Joseph is a clinical pharmacologist and pharmacokineticist with twenty years of clinical drug development experience in the pharmaceutical industry. He has extensive experience with both small and large molecule in diverse therapeutic areas such as HIV, HCV, oncology, diabetes, neurology, rare disease and infectious disease. Before joining Parexel, Joseph worked as director of clinical pharmacology at GlaxoSmithKline R&D in Durham, NC for 13 years. Prior to that, he worked as a consulting scientist at Pharsight Inc. in Cary, NC. He provides a broad range of expert leadership and consulting services to project teams for early drug development. This includes the candidate selection, development of a clinical development plan, dose selection for FiH study as well as PoC study and preparation of relevant documents, including the protocol and investigators brochure, pharmacokinetic analysis, PK/PD modeling and simulation to support drug development. His experience spans FiH trial design, through Phase I supportive drug interaction studies, special populations and relative bioavailability, to final NDA and MAA submissions, including those in Asia Pacific. Joseph was a clinical pharmacist in Korea for 5 years and in California for another 5 years before working in the pharmaceutical industry.
Education
Joseph holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in clinical pharmacy from Kyung Hee University and holds a Ph.D. in clinical pharmacy from the University of the Pacific, Stockton, CA.
